Hamburg School is a student-centered,
pre-kindergarten through grade eight public
school. Our instructional strategies encompass
an eclectic approach that affords students learning opportunities suited to their
individual needs. At Hamburg School, children
learn skills necessary to become problem solvers
and independent thinkers and to work and play in
a cooperative manner. Our enriched educational
program and curriculum addresses the New Jersey
Core Curriculum Content Standards; however, it
is our objective to make certain that student
performance exceeds state guidelines.
To address our goals, we maintain a highly
trained, professional staff that understands
that being an educator is a privileged position
that demands humility as much as respect and who
recognize the power inherent in their roles and
thus are self-reflective about their actions.
Our staff is comprised of life-long learners who
continue to enhance their repertoires of the
traditional, alternative, and research-based
teaching techniques as well as seek innovative
ways to challenge our students by attending
workshops and conferences on a regular basis.
The focus of our special education services is
the concept that children should be included in
the regular education classroom to the maximum
extent. As such, many programs and services are
offered for students with learning needs
including in-class support and replacement
resource programs that extend from
pre-kindergarten to grade eight. In addition,
our special needs children receive assistance in
regular education classrooms from classroom
aides along with the related services of
occupational therapy, physical therapy, speech,
and counseling that have been infused into
classroom instruction. The expertise of our
Child Study Team (school psychologist, learning
disabilities teacher-consultant, and social
worker) and speech-language specialists are
complemented by the insights of teachers and
parents to develop and implement individualized
instructional programs.
Even though we are small, our school offers a
large array of extra-curricular and
co-curricular programs for students. An honors
program provides enrichment for gifted and
talented students. Athletics including soccer,
basketball, volleyball, cheerleading, track, and
field hockey offer students opportunities to
showcase skills learned in and educational
setting while experiencing interscholastic
competition. Our Environmental Club is highly
involved in the conservation of our natural
surroundings, particularly the Wallkill River.
An Art Enrichment program encourages and
promotes the talents of our developing artists.
Girl Power! and Pass It Along are two service
clubs that meet regularly. Our character
education and D.A.R.E. programs continue to give
students the knowledge and skills necessary to
prepare them to make healthy choices now and in
their futures. Finally, our bi-monthly spirit
assemblies enable the entire school to come
together. Hosted by various grade levels, the
themes range from honoring veterans to the
spirit of giving to those less fortunate. Each
time we meet, the theme serves to unify the
Hamburg School family and promote Hamburg Pride.
Without a doubt, the Board of Education provides
the students of the Hamburg with educational
opportunities that address the needs of all
learners in our school, and we are all proud of
our students, faculty, support staff, and each
member of the Hamburg School Family.
With Hamburg Pride,
