Fifth grade is a
year of transition from elementary to
middle school. Many changes are
occurring in and out of school for these
pre-teens. You may notice many changes
during the course of this year. It is
normal and expected. Together, I am sure
that we’ll have a successful year.

students are required to learn 20
list words and 5 challenge words for
each unit
- Grammar –
lessons are given to help students
use proper English in their speaking
and writing.
- Reading –

students gain comprehension through
skills such as drawing conclusions,
making predictions, inferring and
context clues.
- Writing – We
will explore various genres of
writing learning how to take
compositional risks.
Science:
Pearson Interactive Science.
- Our new
science series has a consumable
workbook that the students can write
in instead of a hard-covered book.
Social Studies:
Silver Burdett Ginn: Our United States
- Study focuses
on our country from Early Settlers
to Colonial times.
State Fair - Your
child will complete a large research
report on a state. This is a fun
cross-curricular activity including
Language Arts, Social Studies, Science
and Math.
