School Psychologist/Child Study
Team Coordinator
The goal of the school
psychologist is to enable every
student to benefit from his or
her school experience.
Consultation with students,
parents, and teachers to obtain
information regarding social,
emotional, and behavioral
adjustment contributes to a full
understanding of each student’s
unique needs. Psychological
evaluation procedures are
undertaken as needed, yielding
information that contributes to
the ability to provide an
appropriate educational
program. Ongoing monitoring of
students may involve the
provision of counseling
services, referrals to community
services, and availability as a
resource for parents and
teachers.

School
Social Worker
A
school social worker is a member
of the child study team who
helps children that have
physical, learning or emotional
problems. As a result, these
children have difficulty
functioning in a school
environment. The school social
worker often interviews the
child and the family members.
Additionally, they can
facilitate communication between
parents and the school staff.
Social workers may also
intervene in problem situations
and/or mobilize parental support
for students needs. Furthermore,
school social workers may assess
student needs and facilitate the
school and student by providing
knowledge of community
resources.
